Will I Need Staging Services?

One topic that comes up frequently when setting up an intricate network for a business is whether or not staging services are required. Staging services are an ideal way to almost guarantee increased network security, simply because staging allows for all network configurations to be standardised and uniformal. Staging services are particularly useful for setting up a network that will span across several offices and locations.

With large, intricate networks, usually all the branches look and act the same, with the only differences being in the IP address and similar details. During design and implementation of the network, it is especially important that there is consistency across the board, so staging services are highly advised. Staging services usually take place in a remote location, ordinarily a staging lab, and the network components are shipped out to each office. Staging services allow each component of the network to be configured, tested, and shipped out.

While staging services are typically arranged for new network components, they are also recommended for existing hardware. Staging services may be required when a network manager is updating or changing the basic configuration of the existing network’s hardware. Staging services for the reconfiguration of existing hardware is cost efficient and helps the bottom line by eliminating the room for error or latency.

If you do not have an Information Technologies department on the premises, it is possible to outsource staging services. Outsourced staging services are quite affordable and can be an ideal solution for many businesses that don’t have the onsite capability. However, many companies today do employ IT technicians and network operators as part of the regular staff, so staging services can be done onsite with reasonable ease. If staging services are to be handled onsite, a staging lab must be created.

The staging lab should be created as a model of the environment in which the new device or network configuration will be installed. When possible, it should be an exact replica to ensure accuracy. It is best to have as many of the physical neighbours as well as the logical neighbours present for the staging services and configuration.

If a business is unable to provide its own staging services, there are many companies that offer staging services in addition to a variety of other network products. If you do outsource the staging services, be sure to choose a company that offers a wide variety of service options and provides a decent reassurances regarding safety. A good staging services provider will offer services spanning across all data and voice networking devices including switches, single user routers, test certificates, full diagnostic tests and enterprise wide connectivity. The company should also offer delivery and installation services.

When reconfiguring an existing network or branching out into a new network setup, it is always a good idea for a business to either employ in house staging services or to outsource staging services to make sure things are done accurately and securely. Staging services, while not always necessary, are an excellent way to implement extra network security measures and protect the sensitive data that will eventually be shared within the network.
